Destination Wedding Hair and Makeup

There are so many reasons why destination weddings are so popular. For one thing, the British weather can be somewhat unpredictable and prone to rain and grey. Having your wedding in a country where you can almost guarantee the sun will shine all day is very appealing. You also have stunning backdrops, from glorious white sandy beaches to villages steeped in history.

One of the questions I am often asked is how my services can be used when the bridal party is in another country! The good news is that I am happy to work anywhere in the world. The team and I have attended some unique destination weddings, so do ask for more information if you are looking to get married abroad and want to consider us for your hair and makeup.

In the meantime, here are some things we have learned along the way so you can get the best from your wedding hair and make-up no matter where in the world you are getting married.

Hair and Makeup Trials

If like us, your hair and makeup artist is in the same country as you and planning to travel with you, a trial is easy. We would recommend that we have our trial in the run-up before the day as normal. However, if you are having local hair and make-up artists provided by the venue, try and get a trial booked in, even if this is the day before. It gives you a chance to see how things look, and there is still time to make changes. It also helps the stylist get to know you so she can advise and help if you get a little unsure.

Wedding Makeup and the Weather

Hair and makeup can both suffer in the heat, so make sure your hair and make-up team are aware of this, and have the right products to ensure you stay looking radiant all day. It might be that a more light and natural make up is better in this setting. Consider how warm long hair can feel on the back of your neck after a day in the sun. An up-do may be a better option, and hairspray can work wonders to make sure things stay put! There are many beautiful and natural styles for hair of any length and texture that work better in the heat, and your hairstylist should be able to advise you on what might work best.

Language Barriers

Finally, if you are considering using a local service, remember there could be a language barrier, and this might make it hard to get your ideas across. Therefore it is a good idea to chat in advance, especially if you are arriving in the country within a day or so of the wedding. One of the advantages of taking your team with you, using a destination wedding service like ours, means this won’t be an issue!
